Budget Committee votes to move $3 million for streetcar

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Cincinnati City Council's Budget and Finance Committee voted on Monday to move more than $3 million from an account set up for the streetcar to the city's Capital Improvement Account.  The Capital Improvement Account is where the city will be drawing funds for expenses related to the streetcar.

Councilman Chris Seelbach defended the move by explaining that citizens have had two chances to stop the controversial streetcar by referendum, but have not.  Soon after Councilman Seelbach's comment, former Ohio Congressman Tom Luken, a streetcar opponent, replied by asking whether or not the language on the referendums to stop the street car was simple enough for voters to understand.

Full Council will vote on the issue Wednesday.
