Carolinas catch brief break from the heat

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - July certainly hasn't been the coolest month, but we will get the chance to get one final break before the Dog Days of Summer really catch up to us.

This afternoon we topped out at 90° or greater for the 17th day in a row.  If that alone doesn't sound hot enough, that makes 26 days this month we've hit the 90s - 36 so far this year.

In an average July, we expect to hit the mark only 15 times.

At least we're ending the month on a good note!  Tuesday's highs are expected to only reach the upper 80s.  That's about average, but with the summer we've had so far, it's a welcome break.

Heading into August, the story changes.  Mid 90s are back by the end of the week, with Gulf moisture and high humidity back in the picture as well.

Enjoy it while it lasts!  Here's a look at your 7 Day Forecast.
