Woman offers reward in her own hit and run case

Stanfield, Stanly County (WBTV) - Michelle Dowdey says she often bikes 25 miles after work. She's a regular on the rural roads in Stanly County.

Thursday evening, she was injured by a hit and run driver while cycling along Nance and Renee Ford Roads.

"I remember being impacted by the vehicle. I saw a blur of the vehicle, then I don't remember anything after being loaded into the helicopter," said Dowdey.

Dowdey says she suffered a concussion, several bruises, and a bad sprain. She believes the helmet she wore saved her life. It's cracked from where it hit the pavement.

Dowdey says witnesses told her the driver crossed the center line and struck her. Dowdey says the driver hit the gas and kept going.

"Knowing someone would hit a person and leave them in the road without stopping, that part has really bothered me." she said.

Dowdey says police describe the car as a late-model silver Honda, with four doors and tinted windows. There should be damage to the right headlight.

She intends to ride the same route she took that day, in a few days.
