CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Just a little more than a month away from the Democratic National Convention and convention center officials say they're "eager "to hire 50 part time employees.

A job fair was held Saturday to interview perspective workers. 250 people showed up vying for jobs consisting of catering staff, concession sales, event staffers and facility services.

The Convention Center is one of three main venues for DNC events.

Available positions are also posted at www.crva.com.

Applicant Gail Freeman says she wants to be a part of the state's premier event in September and help her community. Courtney Colbert says the chance at a DNC job will be a resume builder.

"This will definitely be DNC related during that week but it could lead to more employment later on if we find some stars that come out and worth with us absolutely," Convention Center Director Steve Bagwell said.

The convention center welcomes half a million visitors to conventions and trade shows spread out over the course of a year. But the Charlotte area expects to see an immediate influx of 35,000 extra people. That includes 15,000 media folks and 6,000 delegates.
