CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Gun sales have increased around the country in the wake of the Colorado shooting, including sales in Charlotte.
Larry Hyatt, owner of Hyatt's Gun shop in West Charlotte says sales at his store have quadrupled since the shooting.
He says July is typically a slow month because people are on vacation.
But since the theater shooting in Colorado last week, more people have been interested in buying handguns.
Hyatt says his latest classes for gun permits are packed and some include more women than men.
"It puts fear in people and they say I don't want that to happen to myself or my family and I better have protection and one of the best protections you can have is a firearm because it gives you a lot of power," said Hyatt.
Lawmakers are currently debating whether or not to ban assault rifles like the one used in the mass shooting.
