A one-man crime spree has police in Charlotte concerned

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A one-man crime spree has police in Charlotte concerned.

He's robbed at least ten area convenience stores, all over Charlotte, and officials fear he may soon do more than just wave a gun around.

Surveillance video from the Kangaroo Express at Park and Woodlawn shows a man in camouflage from head to toe lurking near the car wash behind the store.

When the clerk went outside for a moment, the man-in-cammo pulled out a silver handgun and marched the clerk in and around the counter, then demanded he open the cash registers.

Police noticed he used his left hand to hold the gun and was wearing purple gloves. He was careful to keep his head low so the surveillance cameras couldn't see his face.

As he was leaving, a customer pulled up and opened the car door. The robber tried to get into the car, but the driver quickly closed the car door.

The robber then ran across the parking lot and disappeared down Woodlawn.

Police are worried he might not stop at robbery next time.

Detective Marty Cuthbertson said, "I think this guy may get a little more desperate, because he's not getting a lot of money. He may injure somebody out of frustration. The people who work here are fearful he may hurt one of them."

Police also think he may be the same bandit who assaulted a clerk and robbed a gas station in Gastonia earlier this week.
