Neighbors find man's body, police suspect foul play

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Homicide detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating a man's death after neighbors found his body inside a home on Red Hickory Lane in southwest Charlotte.

Police were called to the home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, after neighbors told them they had not seen the man who lived there. Police said a neighbor went inside the home and found a man dead.

Detectives on scene said there were obvious signs of foul play. The victim has been identified as Alfred Michael Smith, 52.

Neighbors say he was found in the bathtub.

"The man of the house that had the key, busted into the door, and he saw legs coming out of  the bathtub, shut the door when to his home next door, called the police," said Janine Stack.

Police say Smith's car is missing.
