"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
As we continue our editorial series on parenting, we would like to hear from of you -- Speak Out.
Go to wbtv dot com and look for the Speak Out tab on the homepage of our website.
Send us your input and reactions and we may air them in our final parenting segment later this week.
As we were passionately discussing parenting among our board, one of the members posed an interesting question.
We'll ask you the same one…
Do you let other people manage your checkbook, bill payments, savings accounts – basically your money?
If you can't fathom that, consider how much time your children spend in the care of others.
School, daycare, after-school care, baby sitters, grandparents, friends…
All of these people influencing the way your child thinks and how he or she views the world.
It was a sobering thought for the members of our board.
More of an "Ah-ha" moment than a guilt-ridden reaction to a finger-pointing speech.
Our recent editorials have dealt with the boundaries between parenting and friendship,
and the importance of being a parent and setting an example.
In the end, all of us will agree that our most precious assets are our children.
Take a step back every once in a while and make sure they know it.
Give them your undivided attention -- the special time they need.
There is an old saying that kids spell love – T-I-M-E.
Make it count…make a difference and show your love by being a parent.
Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
