CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - On Saturday, several teenagers found there was a lot more to a simple game of golf than just a lesson on how to swing.
They met role models who may also teach them a little about life and growing into successful young men. The mentoring group, 100 Black Men of Charlotte, paired up about 35 youth with adults at the Ballantyne Hotel for a fundraiser called the Gray Classic.
Founder Herb Gray said the group had more than 200 golfers attend. "It gets us involved. It makes us stay here for several hours together as a group," said Gray about the opportunity of getting to know everyone. He said the golf game also exposed some youth to a sport they may have never played.
100 Black Men of Charlotte offers Saturday academies for the youth, parent-child session, and mentoring all year long. Gray said it is a commitment, but one that helps young people stay on the right path.
