Convicted killer tied to the disappearance of Amanda Berry - | WBTV Charlotte

What's next in the search for missing teen, Amanda Berry

The search for Amanda Berry turned up nothing despite a huge commitment of police resources, so who will pay?

We've learned it is unlikely the tipster will face charges for making a false report.  He's already doing 26 years for killing a man.

And investigators need more than his words to charge him with the murder of Amanda.

Years of searching for Amanda Berry bring investigators to a small spot on Cleveland's near west side.

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor says a few weeks ago he received a letter from inmate, Robert Wolford.

Wolford said he killed Amanda and buried the body.  He could also show police where she's buried.

19 Action News has learned a prison investigator questioned Wolford, as well as Cuyahoga County Sheriff's deputies.

Wednesday, Wolford was driven to Cleveland from Lucasville prison.  He went right to the spot at West 30th and Wade Avenue.

"There was like 12 vice cars or detective cars and he was cuffed and handcuffed and shackled and they had him in the car and they brought him out," said an identified neighbor.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, Bill Mason said he receives lots of letters from inmates.

"I get these letters about every other week and I check them out," said Mason.

Mason wouldn't go into detail, but says he had many reasons to believe Wolford.

Wolford doing 26 years in prison for killing a homeless man in a drug deal in 2007 in the same area as investigators are searching for Berry's remains.

Investigators suspect Wolford killed Amanda in 2003 when she disappeared.  He knew her and had some kind of relationship with her.

We are getting a clearer picture now on the timing and arrival of rain for our First Alert Days Monday and Tuesday. We want to emphasize there is no severe weather threat this week, but just don't want anybody to get caught off guard by the heavy rain after such a beautiful weekend.

In February, it seemed like the West Rowan Middle School band's dream of playing in a competition in Williamsburg had been stolen, just like $1000's allegedly taken by the band boosters former treasurer.
