CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed Thursday that the man killed in a vehicle crash off of Interstate 485 is a Charlotte DJ who had been missing since spring.

Max Agustin Morales Espinoza was found dead in his car earlier this month.

According to Trooper John Bergen, troopers were called to the area around the Interstate 485 ramp onto Interstate 77 in south Charlotte on July 16th.

Investigators were called to a one-vehicle wreck just after the I-77 split, where a car went into the embankment.

While they were there, they found a second wrecked car in the woods.  The vehicle is part of a missing person's case and investigators say they found the body of a man inside the vehicle.

The local disc jockey disappeared after working at a house party in South Charlotte in May.

At 1:39 a.m., he texted a friend saying he was headed home, but he never made it.

"We drive everyday after work just with the hope to see his car in the driveway but nothing," James Gallo, Espinoza's friend told WBTV in May.

Gallo spent much of Monday at the scene of the wreck waiting to see if the car matched Espinoza's. Gallo said friends and family had searched this same stretch of road but found nothing. It is the route Espinoza would've driven home.

"Under the circumstances, I think it's easy to accept and move forward," Gallo said. "We know he didn't suffer and that is another relief to us."

Gallo says the waiting and wondering has been hard - imagining what could have happened to Espinoza.
