Charlottean comes home to lead uptown church

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - First Presbyterian has only known 15 senior ministers in its nearly 200 year history in uptown on Trade Street.

On Sunday, the congregation voted to call another. Pendleton Peery, 35, comes back to Charlotte from Shreveport, Louisiana where he led another Presbyterian church.

Reverend Peery grew up in Charlotte with two Presbyterian ministers as parents. The ministerial profession goes back six generations in his family.

Peery attended East Mecklenburg High School and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Peery brings his wife, Lindsey, and their three small children with him.

"I cannot tell you how grateful, humbled and excited I am to be at First Presbyterian," he said in a statement provided by the church.
