CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police are investigating a shooting in east Charlotte that left multiple town homes riddled with bullets.
It happened at the Windsor Gate Lane town homes just before 6 a.m. Friday.
Pamela Burris estimates she heard 40 rounds of gunshots. She says she was asleep when her boyfriend ran upstairs to tell her a bullet had pierced their door.
"My boyfriend was sitting on the couch when the bullet pierced the door..it just missed him," Burris said.
Burris points to 4 other town homes hit but bullets. One woman's glass door was shattered and a bullet hole was seen in her upstairs window.
"We are innocent people and to be awakened to gun shots, it's a horrible situation," Burris said.
7-year-old Zekiah Wright said he heard the gunshots just as he was waking up. "Pow, pow, pow," Wright said. "My mom thought it was fireworks at first. I thought it was police knocking on the door." Wright's mother say her 8-month old daughter was also inside at the time.
Police say this type of crime is unusual for the condo complex. They believe this is an isolated incident and say they're in the process of interviewing people. A black Mercedes SUV or truck with dark tinted windows may be involved. According to CMPD, the people WBTV spoke with were not the intended targets but a home in the area is "of interest."
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Crimestoppers.
