One killed when car crashes into pole, splits in half, police say

Mint Hill police are investigating a deadly accident Wednesday night where speed and alcohol played a role.

The incident was reported at 7:53 p.m. on the 12500 block of Bain School Road, according to a news release from the Mint Hill Police Department.

A vehicle had struck a tree and split in half ending up in the front yard of a home, police said.

Officers found Enrique Omar Ochoa, 23, was found lying in the yard unconscious. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Camerin Thomas Wells, 18, and Brandon Scott Smith, 19, were also in the car and transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment.

Police are still investigating the accident and say speed and alcohol played a role in the crash.
