Cops: Duo robbed, beat man with bat

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Charlotte police say they have arrested two men who robbed a man and beat him with a baseball bat after he walked out of a check cashing business Tuesday afternoon.

The incident was reported at 3:30 p.m. on the 6400 block of the Plaza, according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Laquentin Winchester, 19, and Curry Evans, 19 were arrested on Tuesday.

When officers arrived on scene the victim stated he had just purchased a money order at a nearby check cashing establishment and was walking home.

The victim stated that the suspects pulled up to him in a gray car, got out of the vehicle, and grabbed him before demanding money at gunpoint.  

The suspects went through the victims pockets and removed his property without his consent before one of the suspects produced a bat and struck the victim in the head. The suspects got back into the vehicle and immediately left the scene in the direction of W.T. Harris Blvd.

Winchester is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Evans is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
