No more brown water: Town set to replace 100 year old water system

DALLAS, NC (WBTV) -

A Gaston County town is replacing its century old water system after residents having been coping with years of discolored water and rust stained sinks.

Dallas Interim Town Manager Jim Palenick said the town is planning to upgrade its water system by replacing pipes ranging from 80 to 100 years old.

Palenick said the town is in the final planning stages of a $4 million upgrade and hopes to start replacing the old pipes by the end of the year.

There is no public health risk to drinking or using the discolored water, which often appears brown or green from mineral deposits that formed over the years.

The town hopes to have the replacement project done within 12 months.
