CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – The Wells Fargo Championship started a new tradition today, one that gives back to those who make the Quail Hollow event run smoothly.
Tom Edwards received the first ever Chairman's Award for his great attitude and continued volunteer work over the past decade. The honor includes an engraved plaque, three days and two nights in St. Augustine, a round of golf at a prestigious course, $500 spending cash, a trip to the Golf Hall of Fame and a one thousand dollar donation to a charity of the winner's choice.
Quail Hollow Tournament Director, Kym Hougham,
presented the plaque after a celebratory lunch. He is extremely grateful for all of the
volunteer help and admits that the tournament would not be possible without
them. Hougham said when the committee discussed the different nominees; there
was no question that Tom deserved the first annual award.
Edwards was very humble when thanking them, saying it's an honor for him to work with such great, professional people. He finished up by joking that he's still going to volunteer and won't stop until they force him to.
