CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - There are two things we know for sure about summer.
First, it's a great time to eat ice cream as a way to cool off.
Second, it's a traditionally slow time for blood donations to the Red Cross.
While it may seem like an odd combination, you can actually help with the blood shortage and polish off a pint of ice cream all in the same day.
The 2012 WBTV/ Ben and Jerry's Give a Pint, Get a Pint blood drive will be held at several different locations in our community on July 12th.
Along with a certificate for a free pint of ice cream, those who come out to donate will also receive a FREE t-shirt and will be entered to win a $3,000 gift card.
People can donate at four locations in Charlotte and one each in Huntersville, Gastonia and Davidson.
Kara Lusk Dudley visited WBTV News Sunday Morning to talk about the blood drive and why donations are so important at this time of year.
