BELMONT, NC (WBTV) -
Police in Belmont responded to the Hampton Inn off I-85 two times Saturday.
The first time, police said they found Frederick Heller Denny, 61, of Oregon drunk and belligerent. Officers told Denny he could stick around as long as he didn't cause any problems.
Then, a short time later, officers were called back out to the hotel. Police told WBTV Denny said he had a gun, threatened to use it and barricaded himself in his room.
Dozens of guests were evacuated as a precaution.
SWAT officers responded but said Denny wouldn't negotiate. Eventually officers entered the room and arrested Denny, but police said they never did find a weapon.
Investigators at the scene told WBTV Denny will face charges.
