Electrolux offers relief from the heat

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The company Electrolux has saved the day for many families in need during these hot temperatures.

Electrolux donated 940 air conditioning units to families who can't afford a unit.  They are teaming up with Crisis Assistance Ministry.

"Oh man this is a blessing from the Lord." Air Conditioning unit recipient Antoinette Davis said.

Davis said the unit came right on time.

"I go to bed at night," Davis said. "Bed is soak and wet. I've been using a fan. I haven't had an air conditioning unit. I haven't been able to afford one 'cause I am on a fixed income."

Maya Anne Mays also received a unit. She claims the unit will help improve her health.

"I have had multiple epileptic seizures in the past week because of the heat," Mays said. "And so having air conditioner will definitely decrease my episodes and I will be able to fulfill a normal life"

Electrolux just relocated to Charlotte about two years ago. The company says this is its way to give back and be a part of the community.

"This is the beginning for us," Corporate Communications North America Director Caryn Klebba said. "To really say we are committed to giving back in Charlotte in a meaningful way and providing relief to those most in need."

So far about 80 people are on the list to get a free AC unit.

"It's a God send," Mays said. "And I don't know how to say thank you."
