"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
Most of us don't have to think about our own blood on a daily basis.
But for those who depend on new supplies of its life-giving qualities, blood is always on their minds.
The American Red Cross has now dropped to crisis levels, with 50,000 fewer donations than expected for June.
This leaves them with half the readily-available blood products on hand than they had at this time last year.
In order to make up the deficit, the Red Cross needs your help now. They're calling on all eligible blood donors to give blood as soon as possible.
Blood types especially in need are O positive…O negative…B negative…and A negative….but any type will help.
The Red Cross has two local donor centers -- open 7 days a week -- where you can make a donation:
one in Charlotte on Park Road and a second in Huntersville.
And on July 12th, WBTV will sponsor "Give a Pint/Get a Pint," in partnership with Ben & Jerry's and the American Red Cross.
Donate blood and receive a coupon for ice cream.
Visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS for a list of donor locations.
Give blood and give life this summer.
