Officer Involved Shooting, Suspect Killed

Good morning to you on this Tuesday, July 3, 2012, from the WBTV News morning team...John Carter reporting to you this morning.

We have a breaking news alert...a Charlotte Mecklenburg Police officer has been involved in a deadly shooting.  Police say they confronted a suspect from an armed robbery, a scuffle broke out, the suspect pulled a gun...and an officer shot and killed him.  Cam Man Ron Lee will join us live with the details.

All flags in North Carolina will be lowered to half-staff today in honor of the North Carolina Air National Guardsmen who were killed in a plane crash while fighting a wildfire in South Dakota.  We are getting more details on the crash...and talking with family members.

North Carolina House members have voted to override Governor Beverly Perdue's veto of a bill that authorizes fracking...and the vote came about in part due to a mistake by a democratic legislator from Charlotte.  We'll have more on Rep. Becky Carney's admission that she pushed the wrong button.

This morning...South Carolina Law Enforcement, FBI, the SC Highway Patrol and local police are using dogs and a chopper to find a man and a missing child.  An Amber Alert has been issued out of Clarendon County, South Carolina for two year old Brandon Lee Dubose the second.

It's going to be another hot day here and across the nation today...and one point eight million customers in the Eastern U.S. are still without power due to storms that hit over the weekend. Utility companies warn that many neighborhoods could remain in the dark for much of the week, if not longer.

And here's a really interesting story...the first-ever study on the public health impact of sexting shows close to thirty percent of teens send nude pictures of themselves via email or text.  We'll have more details.
