CHERRYVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

Kim Marlowe says she got a call 2 a.m. Monday that her step-son Josh was injured in a plane crash in South Dakota.

Josh Marlowe, 28, was the load master and one of six crew members aboard the C-130 plane.

Kim Marlowe says Josh has been upgraded from critical to serious condition. Doctors worried about bleeding on the brain, smoke in his lungs and Marlowe says Josh has broken ribs.

"[I] just want him to know that I love him...and we're praying for him to come back home and I'm just asking for people to pray for him and families that weren't as fortunate."

Marlowe says Josh had just returned from a trip fighting overseas when he was called up to fight the fires out West. The mission was supposed to last two weeks.

"He said when he left they were all proud to be going..he loved to serve his country," Marlowe said.
