Grim news for a Mooresville family

Hello again everyone, it's Paul Cameron in the WBTV newsroom.

Tonight at 5:00PM—grim news for a Mooresville family as the husband and father of two children was killed when his Air National Guard C-130 crashed while fighting wildfires.  Lieutenant Colonel Paul Mikeal was one of six men onboard the Charlotte-based plane when it went down in Edgemont, South Dakota.  We're working to learn new details about the crash.

While we got a break today from the record-tying heat wave, others in the mid-Atlantic aren't so lucky.  2 million people lost electricity after vicious storms Friday night.  They've been sweltering all weekend.  Power crews from the Charlotte area are among the many who are working around the clock to restore electricity.  It could take several days.

Our overnight storms caused damage and power outages across the region.  Duke Energy is reporting 23,000 without power tonight.

We're also talking with the new CMS Superintendent on his first day on the job.
