Temperatures to hit triple digits in Charlotte area this weekend

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - If you think it is hot now, just wait for the next few days. Temperatures are supposed to be over 100 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.

WBTV caught up with Brandon Biles, a technician with Morris Jenkins Heating and Air on Thursday. Biles says he's already expecting to work long hours this weekend, and says the last 24 hours have been crazy.

He says the company is expecting to see at least 1,200 calls a day this weekend. We joined Biles on a call in north Charlotte, the home of Steve Burnette.

"When I got home this afternoon, it was 84 degrees in the house," Burnette said.

Biles spent almost an hour working on Burnette's A/C unit. It turns out, the unit is broken, and could cost thousands to fix. Biles says its over a decade old.

"Can we stay here and get some sleep tonight or go to a relative's house or even go to a motel?," Burnette said.

Biles says to avoid the same fate, keep your thermostat at a moderate setting. Don't go to the extreme. He also says make sure your air filter is changed and clean. He says to do maintenance when it's not hot, so when you hit a heat wave, you're good to go.

"I definitely want to get it fixed tomorrow whatever it takes to get it fixed I want to be able to stay cool," Burnette said.

If you live in York County, cooling centers are located at the Salvation Army Office located at 119 S. Charlotte Avenue in Rock Hill. The hours will be Friday only from 9:00AM - 5:00PM.

The other cooling center in Rock Hill is located downtown at ROC Community Center - 119 East White Street.  That center will open for the weekend during the hours of 10:00AM - 4:00PM.
