CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The morning begins each day at Freedom School's 25 locations, with an energized song and dance. Then they take to their classrooms for group learning that focuses on reading and boosting self-esteem.
Freedom School is a network of volunteers and college interns who take the summer to teach more than 1,600 children. The idea is to reach inner city youth who might suffer from a learning loss during the summer break.
The school's have been an incredible success so far according to Director Mary-Nell McPherson. She says the program boasts a 90% success rate when it comes to stopping the learning loss in students during the summer.
