MORGANTON, NC (WBTV) -
The Burke County Sheriff's Department's Narcotics division acted on a tip that turned up a major meth manufacturing operation.
Police executed warrants at a home located on the 1000 block of Paddy's Creek Road Monday night.
Police arrested Vernon McCarthy, 43, and is his girlfriend Gina Bingham, 41, and charged them with manufacturing meth.
During the investigation police discovered that a relative of McCarthy's was operating an adult group home, which is about 50 feet from the meth lab.
Fearing cross contamination, because McCarthy and Bingham likely had access to the group home…investigators contacted adult protective services, who then shut the group home down, and made plans to relocate the people who lived there.
Bingham and McCarthy make their first appearance in court Tuesday. Police are still trying to determine how long the lab had been in operation.
