The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has heard your requests for more light rail service on the weekends.
Starting July 2, CATS will add an additional outbound trip on the LYNX Blue Line at 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings.
"The additional trip will allow the LYNX schedule to better align with the bus service providing another alternative for passengers heading to and from Uptown for events, dining and other activities," says Rocky Paiano, General Manager Rail Operations.
The 99 North Meck Village Rider will now serve North Mecklenburg High School after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. The route will travel from Hambright Road onto Old Statesville Road, then onto Alexanderana Road. The two evening trips will provide students with transportation options after school to get to jobs or connect to other CATS bus routes.
Some of the other upcoming changes beginning on Monday, July 2 include:
29 SouthPark/UNCC – Theschedule will be adjusted to start service at SouthPark Mall instead of Cotswold.
30 Woodlawn/Scaleybark Crosstown – Route 30 may occasionally detour due to construction along Clanton Road and railroad work on North Hoskins Road.
232 Grier Heights – A new inbound 6:06 a.m. trip will be added to the weekday service.
Starting July 1, customers will see a 25 cent fare increase for local routes and approximately a 14.2 percent increase for all other fares.
The local bus routes and train fare will adjust from $1.75 each ride to $2.00.
"The fare increase was needed for CATS to maintain the core transit services currently provided to our customers. CATS fares continue to compare favorably to other transit systems," said CATS' Chief Executive Officer Carolyn Flowers.
This fare increase is in accordance with the Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC) Fare Policy which authorizes a fare increase every two years.
The objectives of this fare policy include making transit simple and convenient, encouraging ridership through affordability and meeting mandated financial goals.
