Emergency crews rescued a teenage girl who fell down a well in Hendersonville Thursday.
Capt. Frank Stout with the Henderson County Sheriff's Office said 16-year-old Alyson Myers fell down a 60-foot deep, hand-dug well along Sugarloaf Road. He said she was able to crawl back up about 30 feet.
Deputies said Myers was hanging out a friend's house when she fell through a hole in the porch and into the well. They said she was in the well for hours screaming for help before someone heard her and called for help.
Stout said rescue crews had made contact and were talking to her prior to her rescue. They said they received the 911 call about 1 p.m. and by 4 p.m. she was rescued.
She was taken to Mission Hospital. Authorities on scene said Myers was injured but conscious throughout the ordeal.
Stout said they were concerned about feeling in her legs, but they do not know if it was because of the fall or what might have happened while Myers was in the water.
Myers spent five-and-a-half hours in the well. Deputies said it is not unusual for homes to have wells underneath with an entrance to the well located on the porch or somewhere nearby. They said the hole was about 5' by 5', and Myers was rescued through a 10-foot wide opening.
