Mint Hill police look for a man who shot into a McDonald's overnight

MINT HILL, NC (WBTV) - Mint Hill police scramble overnight looking for a gunman who shot into the front door of a McDonald's.

Officers aren't sure if this was an attempted robbery or not, but it certainly fits the formula.

Around 2am Monday, employees at the McDonald's along the 9100 block of Lawyers Road noticed a man violently rattling the front door trying to get in, police said.

Because it was after hours, the doors were locked, and work crews inside motioned to the man they were closed.

That's when Mint Hill detectives said the man pulled a gun, and shot into the front glass door, shattering the window.

The employees inside reportedly ducked for cover.

The gunman ran away on foot, as calls to 911 were being made.

Officers arrived on scene quickly, and called Charlotte-Mecklenburg police to help with the search.

Two police canine teams were sent out to try to pick up the scent of the gunman, but he managed to get away.

Robbery detectives were busy talking with employees as the search continued.

Right now, the gunman is still on the loose, however, police may get a break.

The restaurant had video cameras in place, and officials said they have a shot of the man. The video is being viewed by officers, and should be released to the public sometime Monday.
