An eight-inch water main break at the 16600 block of Northcross Drive in Charlotte near the town limits of Huntersville cut water service to the Birkdale Village area for most of Saturday, according to a spokesperson for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities.
The cause of the break is not yet known. Repairs to the eight-inch main required shutting off other water lines in the immediate vicinity. That disrupted service to a number or retail and dining establishments in the area.
CMUD crews who began working to make repairs around midnight, were able to fix the problem by early afternoon. Water was expected to be restored to businesses and residences by midafternoon.
