Charlotte, NC (WBTV) -The Carolina Panthers put a wrap on mini-camp this afternoon at Bank of America Stadium. They expected about 1,000 fans to show up for the open practice and got a surprising 5,500 in the house to watch their last practice before training camp starts in late July in Spartanburg.
The fans seemed to give the Cats lots of energy as they put on a very spirited practice. Quarterback Cam Newton was as jovial as ever smiling a lot during the session that had a lot of big plays on both sides of the ball.
One of the highlights on the defense was an interception by rookie Luke Kuechly picking off Quarterback Jimmy Clausen. Hope springs eternal for a defense that was plagued by injuries last season. If they can stay healthy they could have a breakout year.
Couple that with a much improved offense that finished in the top five scoring last year in the league and it's no wonder why the fans are pumped up about the future. Coach Ron Rivera said he was pleased with his team's efforts over the last four weeks of practice and is excited headed to Camp Wofford.
