Police discover meth lab in Monroe condo

MONROE, NC (WBTV) -

Four condominiums were evacuated Wednesday morning after a probation officer discovered a meth lab in Monroe.

The incident was reported Tuesday night at the Camelot Condominiums on Round Table Road, according to the Monroe Police Department.

A hazmat crew was being dispatched from Asheville to clean up the methamphetamine lab. As a precaution, investigators evacuated four condos closest to the lab.

James Edward Robinette Jr., 49, and his girlfriend, Marie Rankin Robinette, 35, were arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of precursor chemical, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Monroe Police Department.

Both are being held at the Union County Jail.

Robinette mother and his daughter also lived in the condo.
