Man is hit by taxi while running from police

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A man is in the hospital after being hit by a taxi cab while running from police in uptown Charlotte.

The incident happened just after 2 a.m. Sunday morning on Graham Street between Fifth and Sixth streets.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Officers on scene told WBTV that the man was suspected of using counterfeit money at local bars uptown.

When the officers attempted to apprehend the man, he ran away.

During the chase, he tried to run across Graham Street, but was struck by a Yellow Cab minivan that was carrying customers, according to CMPD.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be okay.

Graham Street was closed between Fifth and Sixth Streets for over an hour while police collected evidence.

No one in the taxi was injured, and there are no charges filed against the driver.
