BREAKING: Riot officers moving in on South Carolina prison after hostage taken

Hello! It's Wednesday, June 6. We're getting reading to go on air I just wanted to send you a quick email about what we're covering on WBTV News This Morning. There is quite a bit to get you caught up on right now.

First, there's a breaking news story we have been following in South Carolina while you have been sleeping. Overnight a guard at the maximum security prison in Bishopville was tricked into opening a cell for an inmate, then the guard was forced into the cell and taken hostage. There has been a lockdown for more than 7 hours now. We just heard riot officers are moving in and flash grenades could be heard. We're getting video fed into the newsroom now with minute-by-minute info. Stay with us for that report.

Also, we have the picture of the man arrested for the restaurant and bar killing at El Paisano in Charlotte. We'll tell you the charges against him. Plus, WBTV Cam Man Ron Lee is following another incident from overnight where three people were shot in north Charlotte.

Another story you'll see only on WBTV that will have people talking today. A Charlotte high school student might not get to walk the stage with his classmates next week for graduation. It's related to the night he was drafted to play major league baseball! We'll hear from his family and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools about it.

The roads are damp again this morning. You'll want to keep us on to get the most reliable weather and traffic reports from Meteorologist Al Conklin and Traffic Reporter Tonya Rivens.

See you on the air!
