CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) A woman was shot in the face early Sunday morning in the parking lot of an east Charlotte apartment complex.
Police say the woman caught a man trying to break into her car in the 2700 block of Eastway Drive. It happened around 3:30 a.m.
MEDIC says the woman was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be OK. A second person inside the apartment was not hurt.
Neighbors say they woke up to the sound of a car alarm followed by two gunshots.
One of the bullets was pulled out of Nancy Newsome's sister's adjacent bedroom wall. Newsome says her nephew or son could've been sleeping in the bedroom but she is thankful both boys were with her last night.
"They want to take from someone else because they think they can. Then when the lady is trying to protect her property you want to kill her? Doesn't make no sense," Newsome said.
"It makes me concerned but I still feel pretty safe," Neighbor Osrirs Elbey said.
The owner of the property told news crews at the scene to leave. He would not say whether the complex has security patrols or whether he would consider any after this incident.
The shooter has not been arrested, but police say he drove away in a tan SUV.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
