CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A rough patch of severe weather is headed into the Charlotte region Friday afternoon.

WBTV Meteorologist Ashley Batey says chances of severe storms will increase as the afternoon progresses.

Highs will be in the low to mid-80s across the region with winds blowing out of the south between 11 and 13 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg says the storms are developing ahead of a cold front that will cool things down.

The storms are expected to taper off by midnight and skies will clear into Saturday morning.

The weekend will be cooler with sunny skies and highs in the uppers 70s to low 80s.
