Meth lab found 100 yards away from elementary school; 4 charged

Four people are facing charges after deputies say they were busted cooking meth less than 100 yards from a elementary school in Cleveland County.

Investigators told WBTV they busted the mobile meth lab inside a van parked outside of a mobile home along Davis Road in Grover, NC.  This is across the street from the Township Three Elementary School.

School officials told WBTV that no children were allowed on the school playground Wednesday as investigators were cleaning up the meth lab.

WBTV learned that the school was notified about the meth lab on Tuesday and moved all activities to the other side of campus.

Investigators say none of the children would have been in any danger, but some parents told us it was too close for comfort.

Lindsey Franklin showed up at Township Number 3 elementary around 1 p.m. on Wednesday to get her son. Her sister heard about what happened and suggested they get moving.

"It was nope time to go - time to go get him," she told WBTV. "Because it's already bad enough it's right here at the school."

Investigators say the lab isn't dangerous to the kids now, because it wasn't active. But there were chemicals out in the yard, some also found in this van.

Meth was being cooked at the home - possibly for weeks, according to deputies. Parents say that was the part that could have caused a disaster.

"I mean the playground, is right behind the house. This is terrible." said a neighbor who saw the scene for the first time Wednesday morning.

Investigators say operations like these will continue to flourish because of a new and easier way to make meth.

Four people have been arrested and charged in connection with this operation; Paul Bishop, Teresa Harden, Tiffany Martin and Christina Turner.

No mincing of the words from Mom about them.

"They're idiots," she told WBTV.

According to school officials, everything should be back to normal Thursday because the home should be all cleaned out by Wednesday night.
