Stanley pastor charged with traveling to Haiti to have sex with minor

A Gaston County pastor was indicted in federal court Wednesday on two counts on illicit sexual conduct with a minor.

Larry Michael Bollinger, 66, is accused of traveling to Haiti to engage in sexual conduct with a girl younger than 18 years old, according to the indictment.

Bollinger's last known address was in Gastonia. The incidents occurred in Haiti between August 1 and November 18 of 2009, according to the indictment.

Quaint, folksy and close knit are among the modifiers used in describing the Gaston County town of Stanley, but with one of the community's formers ministers in jail and charged with sex crimes long time residents call it test for the community.

Robert Landers owns a downtown floral shop."I can't see just picking on the church and minister of the church, but it does happen, but with prayer it will eventually fade away," he said.
Few people we ran into actually knew Larry Michael Bollinger, but at places like the Stanley Barbershop what he's accused of doing made for a different kind of conversation for those in the chair.
Kevin Conn of Stanley is among those in shock.
Conn said, "A close knit town like this everybody thinks they know everybody, and something like that makes you start to question who you know and what they do."

The indictment was handed down by a grand jury in U.S. District Court in Charlotte.

Bollinger is being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail, and scheduled to be in federal court for a hearing on Friday afternoon.
