EAST CHARLOTTE (WBTV) – A young man was found shot to death on a porch in East Charlotte early Monday Morning.
Police identified the man as 20-year-old Ronald Martin. He was found on the porch of a home on Billingsley Road which is near Monroe Road.
Medic pronounced Martin dead on the scene. Police got the call around 1 AM Monday morning. His relatives were shocked to hear the news.
"I would have never guessed in a million years," Martin's cousin Archie Middleton said. "He would have been done like this."
Right now, detectives are trying to figure out if there are any more witnesses to the shooting. They walked the neighborhood Monday morning looking for them. People in the neighborhood tell WBTV the shooting possibly was over a girl.
Police are still looking for the shooter. They have not released a motive. Martin's family wants police to find the shooter sooner rather than later.
"The same urgency the CMPD uses in tracking down drug dealers," Middleton said. "And getting drugs off the street - let's use that same urgency to get killers off the street."
Neighbors say Martin was a good guy and didn't cause any trouble. His friends say he dreamed of one day moving away from that part of town.
Police say Martin's killing was the city's 17 homicide.
"That's my loved one," Middleton said. "I can't help but feel some type of pain, some anger even that's my loved one."
The shooting happened about a block away from the Providence police division.
