Walk to raise money for Lupus research

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Jarod Demmons of Troutman didn't expect to lose his fiance, Bridget Melvin, at the age of 27.

The Troutman Elementary School teacher's life was cut short by Lupus this past February.

Demmons will be one at least 1,500 walkers decked out in purple who will march for the rising number of people in North Carolina diagnosed with lupus.  The Walk for Lupus Now Charlotte kicks off Saturday May 5th at Symphony Park at South Park Mall.

Jarod Demmons and Carolyn Parsons, Development Manager for the Lupus Foundation of America, Piedmont Chapter, visited WBTV News Saturday Morning to talk about the event and the disease.
