LIVE: University area shooting leaves two dead, shooters sought

Good morning you made it to Friday! It's April 27. This is Christine Nelson taking a final look at the rundown so I can tell you what we're covering when you tune in to WBTV News This Morning. We're on from 4:30 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.

NEW OVERNIGHT: Officials are combing the University area just northeast of Charlotte right now looking for the people behind a double homicide. Our Cam Man Ron Lee has been at the scene with police, after gunmen opened fire inside an apartment leaving two people dead. What happened inside? Did the victims and shooters know each other? Ron will have all those details in a live report.

HAPPENING TODAY: The suspect at the center of Phylicia Barnes killing, Michael Johnson, is expected to be in court today to face that 1st degree murder charge against him. We're the only Charlotte station that sent a reporter to Baltimore to bring you latest developments as it happened, so we'll have a report this morning from David Spunt. Our Steve Crump was the only Charlotte reporter to also sit down with Phylicia's father, Russell Barnes. What he had to say about his suspicions about the suspect from day one.

We're also following the latest controversy hanging over George Zimmerman's head this morning. As people are asking about the hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash he's currently sitting on. We'll explain the significance behind this newest development.

As usual, we have all new stories for you throughout our 6 a.m. hour. Stay with us for that, and your first alert weather and traffic reports every 10 minutes.

See you on the air!
