MONROE, NC (WBTV) – The lady cougars of Central Academy of Technology and Arts are creating a name for themselves. CATA has put together an impressive soccer program full of honor roll students and skilled players.
Head Coach, Jay Niessner, said the biggest thing he tries to instill in his team is the importance of hard work… both in the classroom and during practice.
They are the defending 1A state champs and it looks like it will be another year of success. With the help of seven seniors, their record this season is 10 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie.
The attention to academics makes the team that much more unique, especially with the schools' perfect graduation record.
Two years ago, the team's cumulative grade point average was 3.75 out of 4 and they were recognized statewide. It wasn't a onetime event though, last year the team had a 3.8 GPA.
This year's has yet to be calculated, but the success in the classroom matches the accomplishments on the field.
