Police: Woman, 73, holds suspected car thieves at gunpoint until police arrive

BOONE, NC (WBTV) - Four people were arrested Wednesday evening after a police chase on the outskirts of Boone.

Boone Police were on the lookout for a stolen vehicle that had run from officers on an earlier occasion.  A Boone Officer spotted the vehicle near Fairway Drive and the vehicle and four occupants fled, according to a news release from the Boone Police Department. 

Just as the chase began and as additional Boone Officers, Watauga Sheriff's Deputies, and North Carolina Highway Patrolmen arrived to search for the vehicle, Boone 911 telecommunicators received calls from the Donnie's Drive area reporting that the vehicle had crashed and the occupants has run through the Kellwood area yards. 

A final 911 call was received from a Fairway Drive resident who stated three strangers were in her home and that she had held them at gunpoint before they fled – into the waiting presence of a Watauga Deputy.

Jermaine Douglas Grandy, age 30 of Lenoir, was charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, resisting a public officer, driving while license revoked, reckless driving to endanger, felony fleeing to elude arrest, felony hit and run, felony breaking or entering, and felony larceny of a motor vehicle. 

Grandy was also charged with outstanding warrants for failing to appear on larceny charges out of Caldwell County.  Grandy was held under a combined $109,000 in secured bonds.

Denise Kay Ferguson, age 19, and Angela Lynn Calloway, age 24, both of Lenoir, were each charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, resisting a public officer, felony breaking or entering, felony larceny of a motor vehicle, and simple assault.  Ferguson and Calloway were booked into the Watauga County Detention Center under $50,000 secured bonds.

Carolyn Mozella Hackett, age 44 of Lenoir, was charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting a public officer.  Her bond was set at $25,000 secured.

All four suspects were assigned a June 28, 2012 court date in district court.
