LANCASTER, SC (WBTV) - A Lancaster man was arrested after he tried to forge a check at an area bank on Wednesday.

Fred Clarence Starnes Jr., 38, of Lancaster was arrested and charged with forgery, according to the report from the Lancaster Police Department.

The incident was reported at 5 p.m. at the Wells Fargo bank on the 700 block of N. Main Street.

Officers observed Starnes walking out of the bank and getting into a waiting car.

When officers tried to stop the car in the parking lot, Starnes jumped out of the vehicle and took off running, according to the report.

Officers blocked the car in the parking lot so it couldn't leave and took off after Starnes.

Starnes jumped off a bridge and into a nearby creek where officers finally caught up with him.

The two people in the car, 41-year-old Mandy Parker Gibson and 39-year-old Ricky Lynn Hinson were also taken into custody.

The forged check was taken as evidence by police.
