CONCORD, NC (WBTV) - The NHRA Four-Wide Nationals Qualifying At zMAX Dragway got off to an explosive start on Friday when a racer's car exploded.
Matt Hagan, the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car world champ, was racing in the first qualifying pass of the Funny Car division when his car exploded.
Hagan was able to get out of the car without any serious injuries after the booming engine explosion.

According to NHRA.com, this is the third year in a row that Hagan has been involved in an explosion at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals.
"Not exactly the outcome we wanted today," Hagan posted on his Facebook Friday night. "Big explosion in the first session and slowed to an 8.39 in the second session."
Last year's champ continued to update his fans with a little joke about making a highlight reel.
