CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police arrested a man Thursday they say fatally stabbed a man Tuesday morning.
Jonathan T. Ervin, of Charlotte, was arrested Thursday and charged with murder, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The news was almost unbearable to friends of the victim, who nearly collapsed on the scene when they got the word on what happened.
A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer who was working off-duty was flagged down by a passersby around 10:53 p.m. concerning a man suffering stab wounds.
Medics raced to the scene, and found 24-year-old Antoine Bernard Mayes Cureton who was described as having several stab wounds. Cureton was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, and rushed into surgery, but didn't survive his injuries.
Witness said they thought this might have been a robbery attempt, but police will not confirm that at this point.
Homicide investigators quickly roped off the intersection of West Boulevard and Remount Road for hours overnight, as the painstaking process began collecting evidence, and talking to people in the area.
