Driver runs leaving overturned car loaded with beer bottles

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Driver flees after clipping a light pole and sending their car on it's side spilling out beer bottles all over the roadway.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers quickly came to the conclusion the accident that happened along the 500 block of Archdale Road was most likely alcohol related.

The proof was all over the road.

Bottles of beer with such brand names as Cobra, Heineken and Bud Light spilled out of a car that was now on it's side.

Witnesses called 911 around 1am Monday after seeing a white sedan hit a pole, and flip on it's side.

The accident wasn't enough to keep the driver inside while he waited for authorities.

Officers said the man was seen climbing out of the window, and running down the street.  He was not able to be located.

Another problem police encountered at the scene was that the car was still on, and in reverse, making it a dangerous situation until wrecker crews could turn the car off.

The CMPD was able to glean some vital information from paperwork inside the vehicle, which they hope will help them track the driver down.

Duke Energy was called out to make repairs to the downed pole.  Archdale Road was shut down for a short time until the car could be towed out.
