CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Smoke fills a room at a local extended stay motel forcing dozens of people out into the cold night air early Friday morning.
Several fire engines raced to the scene of a reported motel fire around 1:30am off of South Tryon Street. The alarm was going off at the Arlington Motel just off of I-77.
Dozens of people were roused from a deep sleep to grab their bathrobes, and head out into the night as room after room was evacuated.
Crews arriving on scene did discover smoke coming out of a unit on the second floor, but the Charlotte Mecklenburg police said they quickly figured out it was food left on the stove.
No major damage was done, and after about 30 minutes, residents were allowed to return back to their rooms.
