Wando teacher resigns, ending appeal in 'Jackass 2' incident

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

Wando High School Teacher Christopher Poston submitted a letter of resignation Thursday, ending a month-long battle to get his job back after being fired for showing scenes from "Jackass 2" to a class.

Poston, a sociology teacher at Wando High School, was recommended for termination two weeks after showing clips of the movie "Jackass 2" to a class he was substituting for on Valentine's Day.

After a swell of support from students, Poston and his attorney, Jay Masty, filed a written appeal to the Charleston County school board. In Poston's appeal, he said he had not viewed the movie before showing it and "was only generally aware of its content" before playing it.

A week later, Poston has had a change of heart, his attorney says. Masty says Poston was also concerned about the student who filed the complaint against him.

"He did hear she was being harassed and that concerned him a lot," Masty said.

Masty says Poston hopes to get another teaching job in the Lowcountry next fall.

The school board was in the process of reviewing Poston's appeal when he submitted his letter of resignation, which is effective March 20.

"My resignation is tendered in part, to protect my family and the students who have expressed such kind words about me after this event, students that may be harmed by their continued support of me," Poston said in his resignation letter.

Poston continued to say in the letter that although he has regrets about showing the movie, he is confident that his work in the classroom over the years helped students and young adults with their educational and helped them become more responsible and engaged citizens.

"I have much to be thankful for this great opportunity I had over the last several years to work with and teach the great students of Charleston County," Poston said. "I always gave my best effort -' and always made myself available to students in need."
